It’s possible to overcome any adversity and achieve any dream with strong, well-developed faith. It’s a real superpower! God’s supernatural ability is waiting for you in His Word. When you build it into your life, faith releases His might into your situations. Faith is our side of the equation. But don’t wait to get started. Begin cultivating it today with these five building blocks!

  1. READ

Your body has muscles, but they are not automatically strong. You build strength by nourishing and using those muscles on purpose. If you are a Christian, God has already given you a measure of faith (Romans 12:3). Now it’s up to you to develop and strengthen your “faith muscles.” If you only ate once a month, your physical muscles would be weak. The same is true with reading your Bible and your faith. God’s Word is “faith food,” so read it and feed your faith every day!

  1. UNDERSTAND

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and in all your getting, get understanding.” Start where you are. But know this—you have heavenly help when it comes to figuring things out! Jesus helped his followers understand the scriptures (Luke 24:45). He asked the Father to give us another Helper to be with us always, the Spirit of truth (John 14:16-18). Paul prayed that the eyes of our understanding would be opened (Ephesians 1:15-19). And James 1:5 tells us to ask God for wisdom, and it will be given to you—generously!

  1. BELIEVE

Jesus said something amazing in Mark 9:23 (NKJV): “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Did you notice that He said all things? Anything is possible! It’s essential to keep exercising your faith and believe what the Bible says. Just as sure as you believe and know God’s Word on the inside, it will show up on the outside!

  1. SPEAK

Romans 10:8-17 gives us a beautiful example of how faith works and what role our words play. Faith comes from the Word and is in our hearts and mouths. Our hearts believe the Word, and our mouths speak it—that’s faith! Have you ever noticed how easily what you really believe jumps out of your mouth? Words empower your beliefs. Focus your words, and you can focus your faith!

  1. APPLY

Your faith grows according to what you do with it. You feed it with God’s Word, and you exercise it by putting it into practice. If you don’t apply what you learn, your faith muscles will be flabby! Be a “doer of the Word” (James 1:22-25). Practice it in everyday living. Start taking “faith steps” right where you are at. You will build strength, hone skills, and grow in ability to meet the storms of life with strong, overcoming faith.

Are you pumped up and ready to strengthen your faith? Go for it! And don’t forget that it’s okay to make mistakes or fall flat when you step out in faith. Like a toddler learning to walk, pop back up and go at it again! Through faith and patience, you will experience what God has promised (Hebrews 6:12)!
