Break Every Stronghold

I am convinced that Winter Bible Seminar is a specific time to get instruction from God and bring down strongholds that would endeavor to stop those plans. One year, it seemed as though all hell broke loose leading up to those meetings! I knew the enemy was flooding in.

When the devil knows that believers are about to break his power, he comes to distract and break concentration. But Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV) says, “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

The Spirit of God came upon me, I grabbed my husband, and we took authority over what was happening! God spoke to us: “Gather up the troops because this is war!” We rallied our prayer groups on the Rhema campus, and the Holy Spirit began to show us the people who were coming to WBS that year!

The Lord said, “As you all come together in one place and one accord, every stronghold that has been against everybody represented shall be broken in the Name of Jesus!”

Take Your Authority

God wants us to take authority over anything that comes against us. Yet, we roll over, play dead, and whine, “Why did this happen to me? I serve faithfully! I read my Bible! I give my tithes!” We need to do all those things. But to break the strongholds of the devil, we have to use the Name of Jesus. It has power against every other name!

Matthew 18:18–20

18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

This is more than a promise from the Lord; it is a plan for the Church. God wants us to be in one accord because there is much power in unified prayer.

Ask in Agreement

I like how The Message Bible translates these verses, “Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”

Do we realize how much power the prayer of agreement has? It brings a response from our Heavenly Father! When we come into unity and harmony, nothing will be impossible for us!

That’s why the enemy stirs up strife. Satan knows when Christians are of one mind and one accord, anything is possible. That’s when “suddenlies” happen!

Acts 2:1–4

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Heaven is waiting for earth to ask in agreement. When we agree in prayer, it moves us into an entirely different realm of power!

Praying together moves us from addition to multiplication. “Five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight” (Lev. 26:8). Deuteronomy 32:30 says that one person can chase a thousand, and two people can put ten thousand to flight!

This Is How We Fight

Ephesians 6:12 (AMPC) says, “For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.”

In these days, we must keep on all of our armor (Eph. 6:10–18). Evil spirits look for people they can devour (1 Peter 5:8). Many foul spirits are trying to operate in our country and the nations of the world, so we must take our place! We must use our authority—and having done all to stand, we are going to stand (Eph. 6:13).

When we agree in prayer, things happen! Strongholds are broken and continue to be broken as we come together in unity. Yes, we wrestle against principalities, but the Name of Jesus is greater than any other name in Heaven or earth. God is greater than any power of darkness.

Stand on the Word of God and agree with one another. As we join in agreement in one place and one accord, our united prayer will break every stronghold in Jesus’ Name!

Symphony of Prayer

The Greek word for “agree” is related to our English word “symphony.” How beautiful it is when instruments come together! They play the same song but with different notes. So it is in prayer. We pray toward the same purpose, but with distinct parts and ways—all coming into harmony. According to Matthew 18:18–20, in this place of harmony, anything we ask will be done for us!
