Ask in Jesus’ Name

. . . that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in myname, he may give it you. — JOHN 15:16

One day I was at home in the parsonage getting ready for church. I heard my wife let someone in. Without even looking up, I knew who it was. It was that little cotton-headed boy. He came back to where I was in the house and said, “Momma wants you to come and pray for her.”

Before I could say, “Will it be all right to wait until after church to come and pray for her?” the boy said, “She said to come over before church. She’s hurting awfully bad!”

I looked at my watch. I didn’t have much time. I had an automobile, but I thought it would be faster to run down the back alley. There was an old path down there. So I ran to her home, knocked on the door, and she said, “Come in.”

By the time I got the door open, I had that little bottle of oil out of my pocket. There’s no telling how many times I had anointed her—hundreds upon hundreds of times! I laid my hand on her forehead and anointed her with oil. I said, “God, heal this woman now in the Name of Jesus. You said to ask in Jesus’ Name and You’d do it, so You’ve done it. Amen.” I said those exact words real fast, because I was in a hurry. By the time I said, “Amen,” I was heading for the door. As soon as I got the door open, she started to say something. What I said next surprised even me and changed everything for that dear woman.

Confession: I ask in Jesus’ Name. Jesus said that if I ask anything in His Name, He would do it.
