The Power of Your Words

GOD CREATED EVERYTHING we can see from something we can’t see—words. From the beginning, God set change in motion by speaking. Hebrews 11:3 (GNT) says, “It is by faith that we understand that the universe was created by God’s word, so that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.” God has given us that same ability to set change in motion by speaking.

What are you not seeing in your life that you would like to see? Perhaps it’s healing, peace, growth, harmony in relationships, or financial success. Whatever it is, God has already given it to you. He has given His children everything that pertains to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). And the Word tells us the way we obtain these things is by words, by what we say.

What Are You Using Your Power For?

Everyone most likely knows the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Everyone also knows that saying isn’t true. Words are powerful. And it’s time we use that power to work for us and not against us.

Matthew 12:36–37 (PHILLIPS) says, “I tell you that men will have to answer at the day of judgment for every careless word they utter—for it is your words that will acquit you, and your words that will condemn you.”

Faith is voice-activated.

If there is a void in our lives or things aren’t happening the way we want, it’s most likely because we are speaking words that are in agreement with the things we don’t want. We need to ask ourselves, “What is coming out of my mouth all day, every day? Is it agreeing with God’s Word?” Faith is voice activated. We can’t speak God’s promises and then speak the curse and expect the promises to dominate our lives.

Circumstances can talk mighty loud, and it’s easy to agree with them. But we must talk back and say what God says and not what we see. To do that, we must have more of God’s Word in our hearts and mouths than allowing the circumstance to consume us.

When a bunch of things are going wrong in my life, I get out a pad of paper and write them down. Then I write out a scripture that addresses each item. Finally, I ask myself what the best outcome would be, and I write out a confession based on what I want.

Ephesians 6:13–17 talks about the armor of God. Each piece of armor mentioned is defensive, except one—the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (v. 17). Speaking God’s Word is how we use the sword. We can’t punch the devil in the face physically, but by speaking the Word, we can knock him out spiritually. If things are going bad in your life, or you want to see a change, start “swinging your sword” by saying what God says about you.

The Bible says you can have whatever you say (Mark 11:23). If you don’t like what you have in your life now, start doing what God does when He wants to see a change—speak! Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” The power lies with us.

Do you know the devil can’t take anything from you? He floats things by you to see what pushes your buttons enough for you to agree with him. He listens to your words. Every time you say, “What am I going to do? I can’t take it anymore,” I’m convinced Satan goes, “There it is. That’s it. Let’s push that button a few more times.”

Don’t allow yourself to be hung by your tongue. Jesus paid too much of a price for you to agree with the devil and use the power and authority God gave you for evil.

Are there things that need to change in your life, thoughts, and actions? I encourage you to use your power for good and start saying what God said so you can receive what He has for you.
