HE BIBLE CLEARLY calls Christians to be generous givers. God Himself is our example. He sacrificially gave us the ultimate gift—Jesus Christ.

The following scriptures teach us how to give in a way that both honors God and helps others. As you read, meditate on, and practice these verses, let His generosity fill your heart

to overflowing.

Give to Honor God

Proverbs 3:9

9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.

Give Secretly

Matthew 6:3–4

3 “When you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”

Give Willingly, Cheerfully & Sacrificially

Luke 3:11

11 John replied, “If you have two shirts, give one to the poor. If you have food, share it with those who are hungry.”

2 Corinthians 9:7

7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

Hebrews 13:16

16 Don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

Give With a Heart of Compassion & Love

Proverbs 3:27

27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

1 Corinthians 13:3

3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

1 John 3:17

17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

Give to Those Who Ask

LUKE 6:30

30 “Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.”

Give to Those in Need

ACTS 3:6

Peter said, “. . . I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”

James 2:15–16

15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,

16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

Give to the Poor

Proverbs 19:17

17 If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD—and he will repay you!

Proverbs 28:27

27 Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

Give to Your Enemies

Proverbs 25:21

21 If your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them water to drink.

Biblical Benefits of Giving

Deuteronomy 15:10

10 Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

Proverbs 11:24–25

24 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.

25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Luke 6:38

38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap.”

2 Corinthians 9:6

6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

A Prayer For A Generous Heart

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me what a heart of generosity looks like. I confess I have not always been the best steward of the finances, gifts, and resources You have given me. I ask You to forgive me, and I surrender to Your will. Grow in me a generous heart as I renew my mind with Your Word. Show me how to use what I have to serve others. With Your help, I commit to live a life that blesses others just as You have richly blessed me. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
