Expect the Best

THE DEVIL IS ALWAYS trying to get believers to faint in their faith in God and think the worst about every situation. Then they begin to doubt God’s victory plan for their lives.

Once they get into doubt, believers will never be able to walk in the supernatural realm of faith that brings God’s victory on the scene—even though victory already belongs to them. That’s why we cannot afford to think negatively when we are believing God for something. If we’ve been standing strong in faith, but then waver and begin to get into doubt and fear, we can nullify our faith.

For instance, when we listen to the news reports about all the terrible problems in the world today, we can’t afford to start meditating on all the negativity. We can’t think negatively like the world thinks.

We must anticipate the best because we serve a God who has already planned for our victory and success! We need to confidently speak our faith by saying, “No matter what happens, God will take care of me.”

We cannot afford to think negatively when we are believing God for something.

Trust the Good News

When we hear bad news, it’s easy to let our natural mind immediately begin to anticipate the worst. The world’s pressures are continually bombarding our natural senses.

But if we know how to believe God and know the Word, we can’t afford to let outside pressures bombard our ears, eyes, and minds. The world’s negativity should not affect us! Let’s expect the best from God! Let’s expect that what God said to us will come to pass. Now, I’m not saying we’re supposed to act silly and fail to plan for the future. We’re supposed to exercise some common sense. But I’m talking about learning how to believe God so what God says outweighs the world’s negativity.

For instance, God said He will supply our needs (Phil. 4:19). How will He do it? I don’t know, but I don’t have to. It’s not our responsibility to figure out how God will fulfill His own promises. That’s His business. But since God made the universe, He’s big enough to meet our needs. If He can fashion the world with one fling of His almightiness, He can solve our problems too!

Our responsibility is just to believe God! Consider His Word as the final authority—not natural circumstances or man’s opinions. The Bible says, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” (Jer. 32:27).

Someone might ask, “Well, aren’t you concerned about all the problems in the world? Aren’t you concerned about things like inflation?”

Yes, I’m concerned about the problems in this world. But I’m not going to worry about them. There’s a difference. Besides, if a person centers all his attention on what everyone says about the world’s problems, he’ll begin to anticipate the worst until he eventually sinks into despair.

I’d rather read God’s Word and see what He says about the situation! He promised He’d take care of His people. God promised that He always has a plan for victory. Someone once asked me what I was going to do about our rising cost of living. I answered, “I’m going to do what the Bible says. The Bible says, ‘Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God what belongs to God’ (see Matt. 22:21). So I’m going to render to the government what belongs to it, and I’m going to render to God what belongs to Him. Then I’m going to do what the Word of God says. His Word says that whatever I believe that’s in line with the Word, I can receive!”

God's Word Is Our Rock

It doesn’t help anyone to get into turmoil over what’s going on in our world today. We need to constantly be aware that no matter what happens around us, God is still the same. He can take care of us because, down through the ages, His plan for victory has never changed.

In fact, God and His Word are the only things in this universe that don’t change. And God has a plan for victory for each one of our lives—no matter what happens in this world.

God promised that He would supply our needs. Maybe He’s supplying our needs right now through our paychecks. But our trust and security shouldn’t be in our job. Our security in life should be based on God and His Word.

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Word will never pass away” (see Matt. 24:35).

What does that mean? It means that since God promised us victory in every situation, then if we do our part and believe Him, victory will be ours in every circumstance! God said it. I believe it. And that settles it!

Expect the Victory

In Mark 16, we see another biblical example of some people who anticipated the worst. They weren’t trusting in their Heavenly Father’s victory plan that He’d fashioned from the foundation of the world.

It was the first Easter morning, and the women were on their way to Jesus’ tomb. They were worried because they couldn’t figure out who was going to roll away the stone in front of the tomb. They were focused on all that had gone wrong. They didn’t realize that God knew exactly what was going on. He’d already planned the victory for His people through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.

However, the women were expecting the worst. They talked among themselves, saying, “It took strong men to roll that stone over the mouth of the tomb. Who’s going to roll that stone away? We can’t do it; we’re just too weak.”

But when the women got to the tomb, they found out they didn’t need to roll the stone away at all! God had already taken care of it. It had been rolled away by angels!

When stones and boulders of hindrance are blocking our way, the situation is not too hard for God to handle. It doesn’t matter if God needs to use an angel to move those stones out of your path! He can do it. Nothing is too hard for Him. Just trust Him and know that He will supply your every need.
