A Father’s Approval

Picture this: a seven-year-old boy steps into the batter’s box. He waits patiently as the pitcher goes into his windup and delivers a pitch. With a fluid swing, the young boy makes contact and drives the ball to left field for a base hit. As the boy stands on first base, he looks to the nearly full bleachers. Everyone is clapping for him. Some even yell, “Nice hit, Jeff!” But the young boy is oblivious. He is looking for one person. Then their eyes meet. Jeff tries not to smile when his father gives him a thumbs-up from the stands.

Many children look to their fathers for approval. But once we accept Jesus as our Savior, we have a Heavenly Father whose approval we don’t have to seek. He loves His children no matter what. It’s impossible for Him to love them any more than He already does.

The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV). When we believe in Jesus, we become God’s children (Gal. 3:26), and we are triumphant (2 Cor. 2:14)!

God gave what He treasured the most—Jesus, His only Son—to show how much He loves us. His gift of eternal life is free to those who believe it is true. Have you accepted His gift by believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If not, you can! Pray this prayer from your heart:

Father,

I believe You love me and that You sent Your only Son to die for me. I turn from my way of doing things, and I turn toward Jesus. I receive the free gift of His life in exchange for my old life. I place my faith and trust in Jesus alone to save me.

Thank you, Jesus, for dying for me and forgiving all my sin. I receive and confess You as my Savior and Lord. I want to follow and serve You all the days of my life. Let today be the beginning of my new journey as a member of Your family. Thank you for being the way for me to come home. Amen.

Practical Steps to Help You in Your Walk With God

Get a Bible and read it every day. The scriptures are God’s words to you! If you don’t know where to begin, start in the New Testament or search for a Bible reading plan online.

Cultivate your new relationship by talking to God. You can’t have a close relationship with someone without spending time with them. The same is true with God. One way to do that is by keeping an ongoing conversation with your Heavenly Father.

• Find a gathering of like-minded people. Millions of people around the world have made Jesus their Lord. You are not alone. Find a congregation of believers—a Bible-
believing church—and get to know your brothers and sisters in Christ. They will be a source of encouragement to you as you learn what it means to have God as your Father!

• Tell others what Christ has done for you. Share what happened to you and how your life has changed. Not only will it reinforce what you now believe, people may also get born again!
