Invite Him Into Your Boat

LONG AGO IN the Middle East, a fisherman and his friends were in a boat far from land when a strong wind arose, whipping up the waves. They tried rowing to shore but could make no headway.

Just before daybreak, they saw a man walking toward them on the water! “It’s a ghost!” they cried out, terrified.

“It’s me! Don’t be afraid!” the Water-Walker yelled.

The fisherman recognized that voice. It was the man he’d been working for! “Boss,” he hollered, “if it’s really you, tell me to come out there with you!”

“Come!” said the man.

With his eyes riveted on his boss, the fisherman gingerly stepped out of the boat and was amazed to feel the water become firm under his feet! He walked on the waves toward the man. But pounded by wind and drenched by spray, he turned to look at the turbulence. Fear gripped him, and instantly the water, solid enough to walk on, began to give way beneath him.

“Help!” he yelled, battling to stay afloat. His boss reached out and caught him, and they both walked back to the boat. Once they were inside, the wind calmed down.

This is a true account of one event in the life of Jesus and His courageous student Peter. Jesus did amazing things while on the earth. He walked on water, calmed storms, gave sight to the blind, healed lepers, and brought dead people back to life. Most importantly, Jesus died on a cross to pay for the sins that separated all of us from God. Now, whenever people welcome Him into their lives, He gives them power to be children of God and walk safely through the storms of life.

Isn’t it time that you invited Jesus into the boat of your life? If you’ve had enough of being thrown around by life’s howling winds and roaring waves, just accept Him into your heart and turn your life over to Him. Let Him calm the wind and the waves and give you His peace.

The Bible says, “If you openly delcare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly delcaring your faith that you are saved” Romans 10:9–10 (NLT).

To welcome Jesus into your life, all you have to do is cry out to Him like Peter did when he was sinking. Just pray this prayer from your heart:

“Jesus, help! I’ve had enough of trying to make it through the storms of life on my own. I want to be right with God, and I want to follow You. I believe God raised You from the dead, and I accept You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for climbing into the boat with me and saving me. Thank You for giving me Your peace.”
