To be successful Christians, we must stay diligent to obey the Holy Spirit’s leading in every situation of life. And we must trust God to prosper whatever we put our hands to (Joshua 1:8; Ps. 1:1–3).

We cannot try to measure our success by comparing ourselves with other people. The Lord doesn’t measure our success in life by comparing us with our peers or fellow church members. He accepts us and works with us where we are in our Christian walk. God sees us as successful if we are obeying Him and doing what He has told us to do. That’s why it is so important to learn how to obey the inward witness and follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in our hearts.

There was a businessman in Texas who rose from poverty to great wealth. He earned his fortune by making investments. Over a period of many years, he never lost one penny on any investment! When asked about the key to his success, he said, “I learned to listen to what the Spirit of God speaks to my own spirit. If I don’t get an immediate answer on a particular deal, I spend time in the Word and prayer until I know what the Holy Spirit is saying to my spirit.”

This man never lost money on any investment because he followed his spirit in business matters. He learned how to stay sensitive to the inward witness of the Holy Spirit, and he prospered.

You can be the successful Christian God designed you to be. You can train your spirit to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in you. In every situation you face, you can learn to respond from your heart instead of from your head or physical senses. You are the temple of the Holy Spirt. And He will faithfully guide you in every area of life as you learn to hear His voice and follow His leading.
