The Attitude of Faith

GOD WANTS US to have the attitude of faith. In Philippians 2:5, we are told to demonstrate the same attitude that Jesus Christ demonstrated. Somebody may say, “Well, that’s impossible.” No, it is possible because Jesus has shed His love abroad in our hearts (see Rom. 5:5). He has given us the power and capacity to display the same attitude in every situation. Take a look at these four characteristics of the attitude of faith.

  1. The attitude of faith is humble.

Philippians 2:3 says we shouldn’t be selfish or try to impress others. We’re called to be humble and think of others as more important than ourselves. We’re to demonstrate the attitude of faith, which is humble and selfless. When you consider your brothers and sisters in Christ and put them ahead of yourself, you are living out the attitude of faith.

This is the same attitude that Jesus Himself demonstrated. He constantly put other people’s needs ahead of His own. We need to walk in the same attitude of faith and think vertically, in terms of our relationship with the Father, and horizontally, in terms of our relationships with others. How can we humbly serve one another and
honor others above ourselves?

When people know and confess who they are in christ and take advantage of that fact, they cannot fail in their christian life.

  1. The attitude of faith is thankful.

Secondly, the attitude of faith is always one of gratitude. In Philippians 2:14, we are told to do everything without complaining and arguing. We’re not to fuss or cause a commotion. Even when things aren’t going right, the attitude of faith leads us to be grateful and to think about all the awesome things God has done in our lives. He’s done so much for us: He has brought us a mighty long way, saved us from hell, and written our names in the Lamb’s Book of Life. He opens doors that no man can close.

When I think back to 1979 when I met Christ, I’m so grateful. No matter what we go through, we ought to lift our hands and give God the glory for all He’s done, all He’s doing, and all He will do.

  1. The attitude of faith is always joyful.

The Bible says in James 1:2, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy” (NLT). We ought to have joy in spite of every circumstance. Just knowing that the Lord of Hosts is on our side can help us find joy!

  1. The attitude of faith refuses to quit.

Even when life gets hard, the attitude of faith holds on to God. Second Corinthians 4:16–17 says, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” The attitude of faith doesn’t quit; it has a glorious outlook instead.

The attitude of faith is humble, thankful, always rejoices, and refuses to quit. If we display the attitude of faith, God will bring us through trials again and again. It really doesn’t matter what we go through or who comes against us. If we have the attitude of faith, God will lead us into victory.
