We usually take people at their word. If your employer told you that you were receiving a significant raise, you would be overjoyed! You would probably be so excited that you would call someone and make plans to celebrate, “My boss raised my salary! Let’s go out!” Or you may tell your spouse, “We can get the car we’ve been wanting!”
We all react like that when we hear words we trust. We might not have the money yet, but because we count on what was said, we operate in faith. Because we accepted someone’s words as truth, we act! How much more should we believe the Word of the One Who created the universe?
Here is another example. When a hard-working young man finally hears the football coach say to him, “You deserve a starting spot Friday night,” he is thrilled! He’s not even in the game yet, but those words create excitement in him. He anticipates that starting spot, and once on the field, he goes wild!
God’s Word should create more excitement in us than a coach’s words of faith and encouragement. We can trust what people say, but yet we have difficulty believing and acting on the Bible! How much of a more sure testimony do we have in scripture?
We act in faith all the time when it comes to trusting what people say.
God’s Word Is Sure
Numbers 23:19 (AMP)
19 God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good and fulfill it?
Isaiah 55:11
11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
God simply wants people to trust what He has said. That is why many Christians have trouble receiving from Him. They don’t take Him at His Word and then try to do everything in their own strength. They have never learned just how trustworthy the Word of God is!
Romans 4:20–21 (AMP)
20 But he [Abraham] did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith, giving glory to God,
21 being fully convinced that God had the power to do what He had promised.
Hebrews 10:23 (AMP)
23 Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word].
2 Corinthians 1:20
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
Bank on It!
You probably have a bank account. You would never write a check if you didn’t believe there was money in your account, would you? On the other hand, if you are sure you had enough money, you wouldn’t hesitate to write the check!
Actions are based on beliefs. The same holds true in the supernatural realm. We believe that what God said is true. So we act on His Word—knowing that He is faithful and trustworthy and can be depended upon.
We act in faith all the time when it comes to trusting what people say. Along this line, I remember one time I rented a car when I was traveling. After leaving the rental agency, I noticed that the car’s gas gauge registered empty. I turned around and went back because the gas tank was supposed to be full when I rented it.
The people at the desk told me there was a problem with the fuel gauge on that particular vehicle. When the tank was full, the indicator still registered empty. Based on those words, I drove out of the parking lot and headed to my destination. I believed that what they said was true. I didn’t drive the car based on what I could see, because all visible evidence pointed to an empty gas tank.
If we can trust in and respect the words of people, how much more should we believe the Word of God? Let’s learn to act on what our Heavenly Father says in simple faith and obedience. Let’s take God at His Word!
Faith in Action
The Power of God’s Word
Without exception, every time Jesus’ words were believed and acted upon, the results were always miraculous. The disciples had to learn that they could believe and act on what Jesus said, even when it seemed to contradict the circumstances.
For example, in Luke chapter 5, Jesus told Peter to let down the nets to catch fish. Peter initially protested because they had fished all night without catching anything. Nevertheless, Peter recognized the authority in Jesus’ words, so he acted on them. It seemed foolish, but he still obeyed.
The result was God’s miraculous abundance and provision—so much that they were astonished and had to have help from their partners on the shore to bring in all the fish! There is a biblical principle in this for all of us. As we obey the Word of the Living God, we will experience abundant provision in our lives too.
- Find scriptures that give God’s perspective on your need or condition.
- Choose to believe God’s Word.
- Then act on the promise and release the power of the Word into your life. (One way to act on a verse or passage is to speak it!)
